Veteran running back Leonard Fournette is still trying to play another NFL season. Labor Day could prove to be a vital step in his return.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on September 2 that Fournette will visit the Indianapolis Colts.

Fournette is visiting the Colts after having played only two games for the Buffalo Bills during the 2023 season. Last year, he received snaps in Weeks 16 against the Los Angeles Chargers and Week 18 versus the Miami Dolphins.

In those two games, he gained 40 rushing yards on 12 carries. Fournette also played eight snaps on special teams. He returned 1 kickoff for 17 yards versus the Chargers.

Schefter labeled Fournette as a former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Bills running back, but more than half of his career rushing yards came during his first three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jaguars selected Fournette at No. 4 overall in the 2017 NFL draft. In three seasons in Jacksonville, he rushed for 2,631 yards and 17 touchdowns. But in 2020, the Jaguars declined Fournette's fifth-year option and then waived him prior to the regular season.

Fournette then joined the Buccaneers, helping the team win the Super Bowl during the 2020 season. In three seasons with Tampa Bay, Fournette rushed for 1,847 yards and 17 touchdowns.

He also caught 178 passes for 1,210 yards and 5 additional scores.

Fournette has been an NFL free agent since the Bills released him on January 16.

The Colts have former All-Pro Jonathan Taylor, Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson at running back on their active roster. They also have running back Evan Hull on the practice squad.
