Sherrone Moore is gearing up for a significant challenge as Michigan prepares to face Texas this weekend. The Wolverines, currently ranked ninth in the AP poll, will take on the fourth-ranked Longhorns in a highly anticipated matchup.

This game marks only the second meeting between the two storied programs, both of which rank among the top in all-time wins. Texas comes into this game after a commanding 52-0 victory over Colorado State, showcasing their offensive prowess. In contrast, Michigan secured a 30-10 win against Fresno State, but the performance raised some questions about their readiness for a top-tier opponent.

Moore recognizes the strength of Texas, noting their well-rounded team and effective coaching. The Longhorns have a dynamic offense led by Heisman Trophy frontrunner Quinn Ewers, who has a talented group of receivers, including Alabama transfer Isaiah Bond. Their speed and ability to create separation will be key challenges for Michigan's defense.

“We’ve got a really good football team coming in, in all three phases,” Moore said of Texas. “Coach (Steve Sarkisian) has done a really good job with the program. On offense, they present challenges because of the way he calls the game and what he does, his creativity, his rhythm. Obviously, they have a really great quarterback. Skilled players, fast everywhere. … The (offensive) line is as good as you’ll see in the country.

“Their defense played very well. Sound; not very many mistakes.”

“They’re all fast, they’re all playmakers,” Moore said of the pass catchers. “The big thing that stands out is their speed, their ability to separate. And I think Sark does a really good job of just putting them in position to showcase their talent. So for us, it’s going to be doing everything we can to contain those guys.”

Michigan is riding a 29-game regular-season winning streak, a Big Ten record. However, they haven't faced a power-conference team this early in the season since 2021. This matchup against Texas is the highest-ranked nonconference opponent Michigan has faced in the regular season since playing Alabama in 2012.

Moore believes this game is crucial for the team's development and for building a strong atmosphere for fans. He emphasizes the importance of preparation, expecting the Wolverines to improve from their previous performance as they aim to avoid an early-season setback.

“I think it’s exciting for our players, for the program, for the fans, everything,” Moore said. “You want these types of games. You want these atmospheres. You want these building blocks to help you mold your team and really get where you need to be.”

As the game approaches, all eyes will be on Michigan to see how they respond to this early-season test against a formidable opponent.
