Speaking on the inaugural episode of her new podcast "Unapologetically Angel," Angel Reese shared some insight on her time with the LSU Tigers at the collegiate level.

Reese was asked if she had a good relationship with former LSU teammate, Hailey Van Lith. The two played together during the 2023-24 college basketball season, just after the Tigers won the national title a year prior.

The current Chicago Sky forward admitted that she wasn't very close with Van Lith, but made it her priority to make the Louisville transfer feel comfortable.

Reese said she "felt bad" for Van Lith because she was distant from everybody else, which led to her trying and develop a relationship with the talented guard.

"We [Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith] weren't super close, but I was probably one of the closer people with her on the team," Reese said. "I think she was really distant from everybody else. So I kind of felt bad, so was like let me get close to her and like see who she is, because she was the only white girl."

Van Lith transferred to LSU after being a star for the Louisville Cardinals for three seasons. Reese also transferred to LSU, but she went into the program a year prior and led the team to a national title.

While Van Lith was set to come in and make an immediate impact on the Tigers, a team looking to win back-to-back titles, the experiment didn't work too well for LSU.

They finished the season with a 31-6 overall record, but Van Lith saw her numbers fall while she was with the Tigers. Before committing to LSU she averaged 19.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. In her only season with the Tigers, Van Lith averaged 11.6 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.

Van Lith would eventually transfer to the TCU Horned Frogs after the 2023-24 season.

"I didn't want her to feel uncomfortable" Reese added. "I wanted her to feel as she could, being able to come into a situation where she had to transfer."

Reese explained that Van Lith simply didn't fit with the LSU Tigers, but she's still super happy for her as she takes the next step in her basketball journey.
