Plenty of college football teams have sizable national championship droughts. The Miami Hurricanes (2001), Oklahoma Sooners (2000), Tennessee Volunteers (1998), and Nebraska Cornhuskers (1997) are inside the top 10 for most prolonged national title droughts.

In a recent " Always College Football " episode, Greg McElroy highlighted the Cornhuskers' performance against the Colorado Buffaloes in Week 2. Nebraska shut down Colorado for a 28-10 win.

McElroy said that Nebraska was a team "trending in the right direction." However, he quickly clarified that this does not mean the program is officially back. Outside of Nebraska's 1997 title, the program won two more in 1994 and 1995.

"...Nebraska has been on the struggle bus for nearly 20 years, it feels like," McElroy said. "Now, I'm not saying they're back yet. I'm not going to go that far just yet, but it's feeling like things for Nebraska are trending in the right direction, are they not?"

Dylan Raiola finished the game with 185 passing yards and one touchdown. Dante Dowdell led the ground game with 74 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Cornerback Tommi Hill set the tone in the game early with a pick-six off Shedeur Sanders.

Matt Rhule and Nebraska avenged last season's 36-14 loss to Colorado in Lincoln. Nebraska takes on Northern Iowa in Week 3. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network on Sept. 14.
