The Auburn Tigers are looking to build on what was a productive season on the defensive side of the ball.

One of the Tigers' top returners on defense is linebacker Jalen McLeod who is going into his second season as a Tiger.

McLeod recorded 50 tackles last season, the second-most on the team. Additionally, McLeod logged 10.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.

McLeod talked about going into the season healthy after being injured to start last year.

"It's huge," McLeod said. "Last year I got hurt. Right now I'm on the right path weight-wise and everything. It'll be huge and give me a huge advantage to maintain my weight and keep going."

Auburn will be looking to have another productive season on the defensive side of the ball. McLeod talked about what he thinks the biggest strength of the linebackers will be this season as well as the defense as a whole.

"The speed, the depth, there's not a drop-off when the next man comes in," McLeod said. "We're so fast in that area."

One of Auburn's most intriguing transfer portal additions was linebacker Keyron Crawford from Arkansas State. McLeod talked about what he has seen out of Crawford so far.

"He's good," McLeod said. "He's big, he's strong, he's fast. That's the main thing, he's that big and he's shifty just like me."

McLeod also mentioned how he will be fresher on third downs due to sharing snaps with Crawford.

The Tigers will be looking to improve on defense with multiple new faces both on the field and on the coaching staff.

Auburn kicks off the 2024 campaign at home against Alabama A&M on Aug. 31 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The broadcast can be found on ESPN+/SEC Network+.
