Cubs Legend Jake Arrieta Drops Blunt Admission on Criticism of Texas' Jim Schlossnagle

New Texas Longhorns baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle has seen plenty of criticism this week. Some is warranted, while some is over the top.

Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta isn't buying some of the things that are being said of the coach. He shared a blunt admission on his time playing for Schlossnagle with the TCU Horned Frogs.

Here's a sample of Arrieta's comments on social media.

"Schloss was a tough guy to play for… for certain types of (players)," Arrieta shared. "Things got heated between us a couple of times, and I’m grateful for those moments, because they only cemented just how fierce of a competitor he is. He pushed me to be the best."

Schlossnagle has been under fire for being too critical of Texas A&M players publicly and individually, among other things. Arrieta doesn't think the coach has been fairly characterized, however.

The 2015 Cy Young Award winner believes Schlossnagle put him in position to succeed.

"Jim Schlossnagle demands excellence, he expects discipline, and knows how to turn boys into men. This is why he was chosen to run the premier program in all of college baseball."

On the way he left Texas A&M the day after it lost in the College World Series final, Arrieta adds, "He is human, makes mistakes like all of us."

Schlossnagle will coach the Longhorns' first baseball season in the SEC .
