Quinn Ewers Draws Huge Praise From Texas GM

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers had a breakout season in 2023. The year saw the signal caller put up encouraging statistical marks.

Ewers completed 69% of his passes for 3,471 yards, with 22 touchdowns, six interceptions and 8.8 yards per attempt.

While there's room for improvement, Ewers has shown enough on the field to earn respect within the Texas football program.

Texas Longhorns general manager Brandon Harris spoke on what Ewers brings to the team in an interview with 247Sports' Carl Reed Jr. He had the following thoughts on what Ewers brings to the Texas offense.

“You won’t find a bigger fan than me on Quinn (Ewers). Quinn is elite in every sense of the word. Quinn’s probably one of the most gifted passers, quarterbacks I’ve ever been around, and he's so chill, right? The moment's never too big for him. It's the reason why our success has continued to go up since he's been here."

The fact that college teams now have general managers may be a surprise to some fans. Nevertheless, perhaps the emergence of the transfer portal necessitates the position.

If Harris' belief in Ewers is founded, his job of helping put together the Texas roster is much easier. The Texas general manager describes Ewers as one of the best at his position.

Ewers took over at quarterback for a Texas program that went 5-7 a season prior. Two years later, the Longhorns went 12-2, won the Big 12 and made the College Football Playoff.

Certainly, the talent around Ewers has steadily increased, but another strong year from the quarterback could put his team in position to duplicate its success from 2023.

The Longhorns open the season against the Colorado State Rams on Aug. 31.
