Texas and Texas A&M don't renew their in-state rivalry until Nov. 30, but Aggies quarterback Conner Weigman has already issued a bold promise.

"I've always wanted to beat Texas," Weigman said in a Tuesday news conference . "That's a given. I don't know if it was more after that, but yeah, that's a given. That's gonna happen."

Texas and Texas A&M paused their rivalry after the 2011 season when the Aggies moved from the Big 12 to the Southeastern Conference.

Now that the Longhorns have officially joined the SEC, fans are eager to rekindle the "Lone Star Showdown," even if they must pay a hefty price. Cody Nagel of 247Sports reported that it's the most expensive game of the 2024 college football season, with ticket prices starting at $625.

Weigman's comments should add more fuel to the fire. The Longhorns should be favored when they face the Aggies. Texas went 12-2 last season and made its first College Football Playoff appearance.    Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers is also returning in 2024. As of Wednesday, FanDuel gives him the third-best Heisman Trophy odds (+1000) behind Georgia QB Carson Beck and Oregon's Dillon Gabriel.

Texas A&M, meanwhile, is entering a rebuild after it went 7-6 and lost to Oklahoma State in the Texas Bowl. In November 2023, the Aggies hired Mike Elko as head coach after firing Jimbo Fisher.

Weigman played in only four games last season before suffering a season-ending foot injury. He showed some promise, though, completing 68.9% of his passes for 979 yards , eight touchdowns, two picks and an above-average 87.2 QBR.

The anticipation could set the groundwork for another memorable matchup. The last time the foes played back in 2011, Texas eked out a 27-25 road win when kicker Justin Tucker hit a 40-yard field goal as time expired.
