On Wednesday, 2024 College Football Playoff participant and new SEC school Texas suffered a brutal blow just weeks before the start of the season.
Tuesday at practice, Longhorn running back CJ Baxter went down with a knee injury. The next day, Texas football reporter Anwar Richardson tweeted out an unfortunate development with Baxter's injury, that he'll now have to miss the 2024 season.
"I just learned Texas running back CJ Baxter is expected to miss the season after tearing his LCL/PCL during practice on Tuesday," Richardson wrote. "Baxter's injury will require surgery and the recovery time is between six to nine months."
The former five-star's injury comes after he played in 12 games with six starts in 2023. He earned second-team freshman All-America honors by The Athletic , freshman All-America honorable mention by College Football Network and honorable mention All- Big 12 honors, along with also being named honorable mention for Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year.
His first season in Austin saw him rush 138 times for 659 yards and five touchdowns while also adding 24 catches for 156 yards.
