September brings the end of triple-digit degree heat in metro Phoenix.

Even though the cooler weather Valley residents love is on the horizon, the weather was expected to stay dry and warm, with only minimal chances of rain on Tuesday night, said Isaac Smith, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. The high temperatures for Monday and Tuesday were expected to be about 110 degrees, with the rest of the week hitting about 108 or 109 degrees.

Here's when Arizona's weather experts say summer's extreme heat in metro Phoenix may fade and the cool autumn weather could start.

When will it start to cool down in metro Phoenix?

With a late start for monsoons and a record-breaking heatwave ongoing almost all of July, this summer in Arizona has been brutal with residents craving an escape from the 115-degree days.

This is an ongoing trend as Arizona summers often exceed 100 degrees, with July and August being particularly hot. On brand with the nickname "Valley of the Sun," Arizona weather starts getting warm as soon as late May and grips on, not dipping into 90 degrees or lower until well into September or October.

The National Weather Service forecasts the average date Phoenix drops below 100 degrees is Sept. 29.

Smith said that the temperatures in metro Phoenix are on a downward slide into cool winter weather.

"The daily normal temperatures are beginning to gradually drop and that will continue until the end of year," Smith said.

The normal high for Sept. 1 is 104 degrees, but that drops to 96 degrees by the end of the month. October sees average temperatures fall from 95 degrees at the beginning of the month to 83 by Halloween. By the end of November, normal temperatures will be 70 degrees.
