LSU women's basketball star and rapper Flau'jae Johnson is approaching a new career milestone off the court, now within 15,000 plays from her first song with 1 million streams on Spotify. The track, titled "Big 4," came out in 2023 and could be joined by other hits at the 1 million threshold in the not-too-distant future.

The daughter of the influential rapper Camoflauge, who died in a fatal shooting six months before her birth, Johnson (stage name Flau'jae) has been undeterred by significant personal tragedy with her college basketball and musical pursuits. Her most recent release, "Pop It," was made public on the platform on June 7.

Last year, the LSU guard appeared on “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars" with a rap performance after previously gracing “America’s Got Talent” at age 14. “I came off ‘AGT’ and did everything I said I was going to do,” she told hosts Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel. “Last time it was all about my father’s legacy. Now I get to tell my story.”

Cowell was impressed with Johnson's effort, saying, “I felt very emotional during that. You came back so much better. You’re already a star. Now you’re an All-Star.”

The 20-year-old now draws crowds to shows and has used her basketball career to help promote her musical ventures. On the court, Johnson was one of LSU's best players this past season, reaching an entirely new level in the NCAA Tournament starring alongside Angel Reese and Aneesah Morrow.

After Reese's departure to the WNBA and Hailey Van Lith's exit via the transfer portal, Johnson could be in contention to make an All-American team as she takes on more responsibilities in 2024-25. Johnson, who has 2 million followers on Instagram, scored 14.9 points per game as a sophomore in Baton Rouge and elevated her 3-point efficiency to make 38 percent of her long-range attempts.

Still, Johnson and the Tigers endured turbulence en route to the Elite Eight, including an incident in which her brother was detained for jumping onto the court during an SEC Tournament scrap with South Carolina . Through her adversity, the Savannah, Georgia, native tried to balance keeping her finger on the pulse of what's happening online with not letting critics affect her mental health.

“I do check my social media accounts because it’s important for me to stay connected with my fans and the community,” Johnson told On3 this week. “Dealing with trolls and negativity is part of being in the public eye. I grew up on TV and in front of the media so I learned to navigate and ignore negativity and trolls a long time ago. I focus on staying positive and true to my values.”
