LSU Tigers and Brian Kelly defying the noise as they continue building top tier 2025 recruiting class

The national narrative surrounding LSU Tigers football recruiting this offseason has been largely negative despite the fact that Brian Kelly and company continue to bring in elite talent. Most of the negative noise likely stemmed from Brian Kelly's comments this spring on refusing to simply "buy players", emphasizing that his approach has always prioritized "player development" over just placing a price tag on them.

That led many to label Kelly "tone deaf" or at least lacking some modern understanding of how today's recruiting apparatus functions. While it's true that LSU's defensive front lacks elite depth at the moment the current recruiting pipeline for the Tigers looks like that won't be an issue for long. And frankly, their entire recruiting operation looks just as strong as ever at the moment. As of this writing LSU currently has 13 high school players already committed for 2025, and 12 of them are blue chip four and five star talents.

    LSU building up the trenches

The most important month of offseason recruiting (June) has come and gone and recruiting classes are beginning to truly take shape. Many top programs landed a higher number of recruits than LSU did in the past month or so, but the Tigers added three key players in the trenches as they continue to bolster their depth up front on both sides of the ball.

In fact, as of yesterday (July 4th), the Tigers added one of the most dominant big men in the country in four star defensive lineman Zion Williams as you can see in the post below from Hayes Fawcett of On3.

Zion Williams is a monster of a young man who stands at 6'5", 330 pounds and should easily slide in as an early impact player for LSU in 2025. He joined top tier four star talents, offensive tackle Carius Curne and edge defender LaJesse Harrold, as the third key addition to the trenches in the last month for the Tigers. That brings the total trench players (offensive and defensive line) to six of the 13 recruits currently committed to LSU in 2025.

LSU adding nothing but blue chip recruits

Some of the top programs like Ohio State, Alabama, and Notre Dame all have 20 or more total recruits committed for 2025 already, but none of them have a higher blue chip ratio than LSU. The Tigers 12 four and five star players among their 13 current commits put them on pace for a potentially historic recruiting class for the program as Brian Kelly continues being quite selective in his process.

Bryce Underwood (number one QB in the class) and Harlem Berry (number one RB in the class) continue to help in the recruiting process as the two five star studs of the Tigers' 2025 class. Linebackers Charles Ross and Keylan Moses have been the faces of the defense for several months now as well. That quartet of strong recruits should help LSU continue defying the noise as they continue building a monster of a roster this offseason.
