LSU lands the son of a former NFL cornerback

The LSU Tigers continue to bring in top talent, including the sons of longtime NFL veterans.

On3's Hayes Fawcett released a graphic on X to announce that in-state recruit Jhase Thomas was committing to LSU.

Thomas is 4-star safety by On3's rankings and one of the top players in the state of Louisiana. He's also the son of longtime NFL cornerback Fred Thomas. A second-round pick out of UT Martin back in 1996, the older Thomas spent 12 seasons in the league with the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints. Although he never earned any national accolades, he finished his career with 517 tackles, 13 interceptions, and five sacks.

Brian Kelly and his staff continue to produce elite recruiting classes, and 2025 is no exception. LSU currently has the fifth-ranked recruiting class for 2025, led by the No. 1 player in the country in quarterback Bryce Underwood. The Tigers also have the No. 1 running back in the country in Harlem Berry.

After Jayden Daniels won the Heisman Trophy, Kelly now has another feather in his cap when it comes to recruiting pitches. It's clear that he's able to produce NFL-caliber talent, with Daniels, Malik Nabers, and Brian Thomas Jr. all going in the first round of the 2024 draft.

The next step for LSU is to start producing some real results on the field. The Tigers have gone 20-7 under Kelly, but have yet to win an SEC title or make an appearance in the College Football Playoff.

The expanded 12-team Playoff, along with the SEC scrapping its divisions, could give LSU a more clear path to postseason success in 2024.
