LSU Coach Brian Kelly Gives Blunt Response on Expectations for Football Program

LSU coach Brian Kelly had a surprising first season in Baton Rouge. Kelly secured 10 wins and a victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide .

The first-year breakout led some to believe the team would have an even better season in 2023. In many ways the Tigers made strides, but not all were satisfied with Kelly's second season.

While speaking at SEC media days, the LSU coach was asked if the Tigers were given too lofty expectations prior to the team's 10-3 campaign last year. He gave a blunt answer on how he measures each season.

"I don't deal in expectations. I deal within a process of how we do things on a day-to-day basis."

The process-oriented approach has been an effective tool for Kelly's team. The Tigers have weathered early storms in each of the last two seasons. LSU dropped its opener against the Florida State Seminoles in both of Kelly's years on campus before finishing with double-digit win seasons.

This year's schedule will not be easy to navigate. The Tigers face the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins in nonconference games. They'll host the Ole Miss Rebels , Alabama Crimson Tide and Oklahoma Sooners and go on the road to face Texas A&M and Florida .

Kelly indicates his focus will be on day-to-day performance rather than on outcomes in pursuit of a third consecutive 10-win season in 2024.
