MMSD to pay nearly $600K to parents who say hidden cameras violated students’ rights
Two parents who alleged in a 2022 lawsuit that East High School officials violated their children’s civil rights by placing a hidden camera in a room where students with disabilities regularly changed their clothes are set to receive $572,500 from the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), the Wisconsin State Journal reports. The money is part of an out-of-court settlement of three separate lawsuits filed by the parents between 2021 and 2022 after police uncovered two hidden cameras the school installed.

Madison, Wis. – This week, Strong Schools, Strong Community campaign was launched to support the two Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) referenda that will appear on the November 5, 2024 ballot. Leading the campaign are six initial co-chairs: Representative Francesca Hong, Ruben Anthony, Sandy Morales, Jeff Mack, Jane Belmore, and Pablo Baxter. The campaign launch comes on the heels of a unanimous vote on Monday by the MMSD Board of Education to approve one facilities and one operations referenda question.
