Elizabeth Klitzke went 2-1 in her high school debut for the Stoughton girls tennis team. Klitzke is slotted into the Vikings’ top singles spot this season. In the season opener, Klitzke defeated Madison East’s Claire Pietruszka 7-6 (3), 6-4 and Sun Prairie East’s Ashlyn Brzezinski 6-1, 7-5. The matches were part of an invitational on Saturday, Aug. 17, at Ahuska Park in Monona. Klitzke’s only loss came in three-set fashion to Madison Memorial’s Risa Miura 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.

Football: Nine key Madison area matchups to circle on the calendar
The high school football season figures to have plenty of exciting matchups. Here are nine area games to circle on the calendar from each week. It’s been three years since these old Big Eight rivals have met. The last meeting saw the Cardinals, just one Sun Prairie school back then, outlast the Wildcats 38-35. Since then Sun Prairie has split into two schools – East and West and have moved into the Badger Large Conference, while Verona has stayed in the Big Eight. This opening-season showdown will be a battle of ranked teams with Verona being ranked No. 14 in Division 1 by WisSports.net, while Sun Prairie enters the season ranked No. 2 in Division 2.
