A former University of Kentucky student has pleaded guilty in connection to a racist attack against a Black student that was caught on video.

According to CBS News , 23-year-old Sophia Rosing pleaded guilty to four counts of fourth-degree assault, one count of disorderly conduct, and public intoxication in connection to the 2022 attack on University of Kentucky student Kylah Spring .

Rosing attacked Spring while she was working in a campus residence hall. Video of the attack showed Rosing using the N-word repeatedly. Spring said Rosing hit her multiple times and kicked her in the stomach.

Rosing was arrested on the night of the attack and later expelled from the university. A grand jury indicted Rosing on six counts, including assault and public intoxication.

Fred Peters , Rosing's attorney, said his client pleaded guilty after following a mediation with the other party.

"A lot of things got said, apologies were made and we worked it out," Peters said of the mediation session. "She has had a lot of time to think about what she has done, and she wrote a nice letter of apology."

However, Spring said she didn't believe Rosing's remorse.

"I feel that a person that is remorseful takes actions that are moving towards proving they are remorseful," Spring said following the hearing. "Not just words."

Rosing is set to be sentenced on October 17. She faces up to a year in jail and 100 hours of community service.
