BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A Binghamton man appeared in Broome County Court for sentencing on Tuesday.

District Attorney Paul Battisti announced that John Wilson, 51, was sentenced as a second felony offender to 8 years in New York State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree.

The sentencing followed a jury trial that began on April 1. A jury was empaneled, and opening statements were delivered. Shortly before the first witness was called, Wilson entered a guilty plea.

On January 26, 2023, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at a storefront located at 42 Clinton Street in the City of Binghamton. During the investigation, law enforcement located over an ounce of fentanyl and more than an eighth of an ounce of cocaine, along with an additional digital scale. Wilson admitted to possessing these substances with the intent to sell them.

“The Broome County District Attorney’s Office is committed to prosecuting individuals who profit from the illegal drug trade, ensuring that those who distribute illicit substances in our community face the full consequences of the law. This 8-year prison sentence sends a clear message that accountability will be enforced,” said Battisti.
