UAB breaks ground on $190 million facility
The University of Alabama at Birmingham has broken ground on a $190 million facility for the Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine and the College of Arts and Sciences. The Biomedical Research and Psychology Building will house research faculty from the Heersink School of Medicine and the Department of Psychology.

Jana Flinkow, assistant principal of curriculum and instruction at Homewood High School, has spent her career working for Homewood schools. She served as a history teacher at the middle school and high school before becoming a grade-level administrator. This year, she will be the assistant principal of curriculum and instruction at Homewood High School.

Applications open July 1 for Wallace State Nursing
HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Wallace State Community College Department of Nursing Education is accepting applications for admission to the program in the Spring 2025 semester. Applications will be accepted July 1 through Oct. 1 for three different pathway options: Traditional ADN and PN Nursing and joint enrollment options with both the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Athens State University. The traditional option offers students the opportunity to earn a certificate in Practical Nursing after completing the first three semesters of the program and sit for the NCLEX-PN licensure exam, allowing them to work in the field as a practical nurse....
Homewood student serves as Senate page
Homewood High School student Allie Grace Broadhead had the distinguished opportunity to be active in Alabama state government by serving as a Senate page this year. Broadhead received numerous opportunities to participate by helping run bills on the Senate floor and meeting Governor Kay Ivey, Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth, Representative David Faulkner and Senator April Weaver. She also attended a caucus luncheon and a judicial meeting, toured the Supreme Court and networked with politicians and other teens from across the state.
Homewood City Schools Foundation works to ‘enhance greatness’ of school system
Molly Hasenfuss said she did a little happy dance the day representatives from the Homewood City Schools Foundation walked into her classroom. She’d requested a grant to buy 10 sewing machines for her family and consumer science class at Homewood High School, and she found out the foundation was giving her the full amount.
