    Burnt body found in trunk of car following house fire in Birmingham identified

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A burnt body found in the trunk of a car following a house fire in Birmingham last month was identified Monday morning.

    According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded to a fire at a vacant house in the 300 block of Barbee Street at 2:40 a.m. on June 8. After putting the fire out, human remains were found in the trunk of a burnt vehicle in the carport of the house.

    On Monday, the coroner’s office identified the remains as 29-year-old Byron Da’Juan Lumpkin.

    The Birmingham Police Department is investigating the death as a homicide.
