    United Way of Central Alabama hosts back-to-school backpack drive

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The United Way of Central Alabama is collecting donations for a back-to-school backpack drive throughout July

    The United Way Hands-on Volunteer Center’s drive began on July 8 and will run to July 26.

    Organizers have set up collection points in each county served by the UWCA, which include Blount, Chilton, Jefferson, St. Clair and Walker County.

    Hoover church to host ‘Family Fun Day’

    The drop-off locations for each county are:

    • Blount – Blount County Chamber of Commerce, 110 1st Ave. E in Oneonta.
    • Chilton – YMCA of Chilton County, 405 Ollie Ave. in Clanton.
    • Jefferson – UWCA Campus – Alice Williams Building, 3620 8th Ave. S in Birmingham.
    • Shelby – Shelby Emergency Assistance, 160 Shoshone Dr. in Montevallo.
    • St. Clair – St. Clair County DHR, 213 Fox Hollow Blvd. in Pell City.
    • Walker – Chamber of Commerce of Walker County, 204 19th St. E, Ste. 101 in Jasper.

    Donations can also be made through the UWCA’s Amazon Wishlist . Financial donations can be made through the UWCA’s pledge page .

    According to United Way Hands On, the drive is a part of a larger effort that will include volunteer service days for interior and exterior beautification for Fairfield City Schools.
