    Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office hosting ‘Books not Bullets’ program

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham for a new initiative that is geared towards connecting with younger students within the county.

    The new program is be called “Books not Bullets” and deputies will have books in their patrol cars to share with the youth.

    “It is imperative that we stay connected to our youth because those relationships are vital
    to the success of Jefferson County,” Sheriff Pettway said. “We want students to know that
    their safety is our top priority, and using programs such “Books not Bullets” allows us to
    connect with them and learn more about how we can better serve them.”
