MDT provides update on 191 construction projects
They say there’s two seasons in Montana: winter, and road construction. That’s especially proved true to those who frequent U.S. Highway 191 between Bozeman and Big Sky as the Montana Department of Transportation continues work on the pavement preservation and safety improvements project in Gallatin Canyon. In anticipation of Big Sky’s busy summer, EBS spoke with MDT about construction updates and any forthcoming wait times for canyon commuters.
City of Bozeman to Evaluate Ordinance 2147
BOZEMAN — As the City approaches one year since Ordinance 2147 Regulating Camping in the Right-of-Way was passed, and in light of today’s Supreme Court ruling on the City of Grants Pass v. Johnson case, the City of Bozeman is planning a work session for the Aug. 6 Commission meeting to evaluate the ordinance. Ordinance 2147 was passed in October 2023 and set the time, place, and manner conditions in which people could camp in the right-of-way.
Fire department encourages firework safety for July 4th weekend
City of Bozeman Fire Chief, Josh Waldo says, "We want to make sure that you're shooting fireworks away from any kind of flammable materials. You want to make sure you're away from homes, you've got water nearby" and continues,"afire extinguisher is also a great tool to have. If the firework doesn't discharge appropriately, and you feel like you have what we would call a dud, give it time. Do not rush in there to inspect this thing. . . five, ten, even fifteen minutes."
City of Bozeman to host annual firework show for Fourth
The City of Bozeman is hosting its annual Fourth of July fireworks show from the Gallatin County Fairgrounds. The show will begin at 10 p.m. and run approximately a half hour. The fireworks show is made possible by a partnership formed in 2023 between Bozeman Fire and local business sponsors following the city-wide ban on personal fireworks.
Fireworks, vehicle injuries most common around 4th of July
BOZEMAN, Mont. — Bozeman Health officials say the most common injury they see during the Fourth of July holiday are thermal burns from firework explosions. “Over the last four years we’ve had 20 significant burn injuries that required either a transfer out of the state or admission into our hospital,” said Heather Wicks, Bozeman Health’s trauma program system manager.
