GAINESVILLE, Ga. — On May 29, a 12-year-old Georgia girl vanished. Maria Gomez-Perez was last seen near her home in Gainesville. Now community members looking to bring her home have unveiled a banner on a busy stretch of Jesse Jewell Parkway, hoping that someone driving by will help solve the case.
Tennessee predicted to flip 2025 Georgia linebacker commit
2025 linebacker prospect Jadon Perlotte is predicted to flip his commitment to Tennessee, according to Chad Simmons of On3. Perlotte committed to Georgia on Dec. 8, 2022. The four-star linebacker officially visited Tennessee on June 14. He also visited Georgia on June 21. The 6-foot-3, 210 pound linebacker is from Buford High School in Buford, Georgia. Perlotte is ranked as the No. 112 player in the class of 2025. He also ranks as the No. 15 linebacker and No. 15 prospect in Georgia, according to 247Sports. Tennessee has 16 commitments in its 2025 recruiting class: Quarterback George MacIntyre, defensive lineman Ethan Utley, tight end Jack Vandorselaer, cornerback Dylan Lewis, running back Justin Baker, wide receiver Joakim Dodson, cornerback Tyler Redmond, safety Sidney Walton, wide receiver Radarious Jackson, offensive lineman Antoni Kade Ogumoro, edge Jayden Loftin, offensive lineman Nic Moore, defensive lineman Charles House, offensive lineman Douglas Utu, cornerback Tre Poteat. and edge Mariyon Dye. Funeral service announced for family who died in plane crash
ROSWELL, Ga. — A funeral service honoring a metro Atlanta family who died in a New York plane crash is happening this week. On June 30, Roger Beggs, 76, Laura Van Epps, 43, Ryan Van Epps, 42, James Ryan Van Epps, 12, and Harrison Van Epps, 10, died returning home from a baseball tournament in Cooperstown, New York.
Four Lake Lanier Boaters Hospitalized After Fourth of July Incidents
Lake Lanier was the site of the only two boating incidents to happen in Georgia on the Fourth of July this year. Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials said there were two incidents on the lake on Thursday that resulted in four people being sent to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. One of those incidents happened on the Gwinnett County portion of the lake.
Georgia Man Sentenced to 14 Years for Cocaine Distribution in Florida
In Gainesville, Florida, Frederick Anthony Forbes, a 52-year-old man from Georgia, has been sentenced to 168 months in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute the same amount. This announcement was made by Jason R. Coody, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
Melanie Miller becomes the first Black woman to run for Georgia House of Representatives District 124
Republican incumbent Trey Rhodes and Democrat Melanie Miller are candidates in the election for the Georgia House of Representatives District 124 on Nov. 5. Miller’s candidacy makes her the first Black woman to run for the District 124 seat, which includes parts of east Athens, Winterville, Oglethorpe County, Taliaferro County, Putnam County and Greene County.
