GAINESVILLE, Ga. — On May 29, a 12-year-old Georgia girl vanished. Maria Gomez-Perez was last seen near her home in Gainesville. Now community members looking to bring her home have unveiled a banner on a busy stretch of Jesse Jewell Parkway, hoping that someone driving by will help solve the case.
One Drowning, Several Incidents Reported on Area Lakes Over the 4th
It was a fairly busy holiday weekend for Georgia Department of Natural Resources Game Wardens on area lakes. In the District 2 region, which includes Lakes Lanier and Hartwell, DNR spokesman Mark McKinnon said that as of 9a Sunday, there had been several incidents on Lake Lanier, one incident on Lake Hartwell and a drowning on Lake Rabun.
Texas man transported to Hall County Jail on child molestation charges
A Texas man was booked into the Hall County Jail Sunday after being transported from Angleton, Texas on accusations that he abused a female victim under the age of 16. Jesus Hernandez, 52, of Palacios, allegedly committed the crimes against the victim on at least two occasions at the victim’s Flowery Branch home, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said in a release. One instance of abuse reportedly happened between 2016 and 2018, while the other allegedly occurred on August 8, 2022. Hernandez knew the girl prior to the incidents.
Atlanta man arrested for vehicle break-ins at Hall County parks in 2023
An Atlanta man was arrested Wednesday for multiple car break-ins in November of 2023 at Hall County parks. The Hall County Sheriff's Office said Antrone Tremaine Hughes, age 44, was moved on July 3 from the Forsyth County Jail and booked at the Hall County Jail. Investigators identified Hughes as a suspect in the crimes and issued warrants for his arrest on May 31.
