Photos/Mike Williams By Mike Williams news@breckenridgeamerican.com Both the Lady Bucks and Buckaroos completed season sweeps over Dublin in baseball and softball. The sweeps were completed with a pair of shutout victories Friday, April 12 in Breckenridge. Lady Bucks 16, Lady Lions 0 A fan watching the game from behind the center field wall proudly displayed a sign that said, “J Jackson Hits Bombs.” The sign proved to foreshadow the game, which included four home runs. Two of those his by Joni Jackson. The Lady Bucks combined for 14 hits. Charlie Salazar and Carlee Stewart each added home runs of their own. In total, Jackson, Salazar and Stewart combined for 12 RBIs. Jackson and Stewart each added doubles. The Lady Bucks entered the bottom of the third inning with a 3-0 lead. The team erupted for 13 runs, including Salazar’s two-run home run to win the game in walk-off fashion. Chloe Whitmire gave up one hit and one walk while striking out five batters for the shutout victory. The Lady Bucks host Peaster Friday for senior night and sit in first place in the district as of Monday. Bucks 1, Lions 0 A run in the second inning was all the Buckaroos needed to win the pitcher’s dual. Neiko Martinez walked four batters and struck out eight while pitching five innings to earn the win. Camden Escalon pitched two innings and struck out four batters and walked one to earn the save and completed the combined no-hitter. Martinez earned two hits while Karter Smalley and Aaron Moore each had one. The lone run of the game came with one out in the bottom of the second inning. Caiden Marin, who opened the bottom half of the inning by reaching first base on an error by the Lions’ third baseman, advanced to second on the same play. After a fly out by Bryson Herring, Moore followed with a line drive single to right field. Moore advanced to second base on the throw home. Marin beat the throw to score the game-winning run. Alexis Franco, Ashton Reyes and Smalley combined for five stolen bases. Franco was hit by pitch twice in the game. Before this week’s games, the Buckaroos were in second place in the district at 9-1. They will host Peaster Friday, April 19 after a game yesterday at Early. The Bucks will complete the district schedule next week with games against Millsap and Brock. Sports Log in to post comments
