Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad Presents Two Scholarships
The Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad (CVES) attended the Senior Awards ceremony held at Arthur L. Johnson High School. This year, CVES presented 2 scholarships. Taylor Normann received the Josephine and Jack Quinn Scholarship. Jack was a long-time member of the Emergency Squad who was also a training officer. His wife, Josephine, was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad. The Auxiliary was a group of people who arranged various activities to support the squad.

Piscataway Alum Graduates with Distinction from Clarkson University
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Administrators at Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY congratulated Srihari Yamunan, a Piscataway High School alum who graduated with distinction with a bachelor of science degree in environmental engineering. Yamunan was also named a Presidential Scholar for the 2024 Spring Semester for achieving a 3.80 grade point average during the 2024 Spring Semester. In 2019, Yamunan was one of 25 students from around the world selected to participate in Nobel Week at Stockholm University in Sweden. The highly competitive Nobel Week is an international cornerstone program of the National Society of High School Scholars’ (NSHSS) and featured a live stream broadcast of the 2019 Nobel Prize awards ceremony and discussions about prize winners in physics, chemistry, and economic sciences. Westfield High School Spring 2024 Lift While You Climb Award
Twice a year, the Westfield High School Counseling Department sponsors the “Lift While You Climb Award” to recognize students who exemplify the qualities expressed by the late Westfield High School principal Dr. Derrick Nelson. Dr. Nelson — who died in 2019 from complications he suffered while donating bone marrow to a boy he didn’t know in France – is quoted as once saying “We have an obligation to our fellow human beings that if we are in a position to help someone, you do it. You lift as you climb. If you can do that, you have contributed more to society than anything your bank account can produce and, ultimately, contribute more to your own well-being.”
2024 Wiffle Ball Championship at Arthur L. Johnson High School
In a thrilling display of skill, determination, and sheer willpower, the 2024 Wiffle Ball Championship at Arthur L. Johnson High School concluded with Team Beans emerging victorious over Team Do Not Delete. According to ALJ Physical Education Teacher Laura Bundy, “This year’s championship, held at the historic Peragallo Gymnasium, will be remembered as one of the most exciting and unpredictable tournaments in recent memory. The final game was a nail-biter with both teams displayed exceptional defensive skills.” The game was close till the very end. A dramatic grand slam by Team Beans star player Ryan Bienkowski helped clinch the victory for Team Beans. Bienkowski’s clutch performance earned him the MVP title. Bundy continued, “A huge thanks goes out to Mr. Steve Barry, Mr. Caleb Bain & the ALJ PE staff for running another successful tournament this year.”
