Incorrect bills traced to one meter reader, customer issues continue in Plaquemine
PLAQUEMINE - The City of Plaquemine says a number of incorrect utility bills were traced back to one meter reader and that meter reader is no longer with the city. The city says the bills have been sorted out, but some utility customers who have reached out to 2 On Your Side say they're not so sure.
St. George starts work Monday to set council districts, formalize revenue vote
ST. GEORGE — Officials have scheduled two votes for Monday that will greatly advance setting up the new city of St. George. The interim council will meet at 5 p.m. to name a demographer to set boundaries for the aldermen's districts, and the panel is also expected to set a public vote on a plan to divert proceeds raised under a 2 percent sales and use tax from East Baton Rouge Parish to the new city.

Governor Landry Announces Jay Grymes as the Louisiana State Climatologist
BATON ROUGE, LA (July 3, 2024) – Governor Jeff Landry announced that Jay Grymes will be the new State Climatologist. Under this new agreement, GOHSEP and LSU have entered into a partnership. Climatologist Jay Grymes will be a GOHSEP employee functioning as the State Climatologist—reporting directly to GOHSEP and Governor Landry. He will also help LSU teach young folks’ meteorology with a coastal state focus.
Family requests pallbearers to help in Marine’s funeral
BAKER– A local marine veteran’s family is looking for pallbearers to help Christopher “CJ” Normand to his final resting place. Christopher Normand enlisted in the Marines on May 31, 1960, and served until 1963. His reserve obligation was extended until May 30, 1966. He passed away at the age of 81, leaving behind a family deeply proud of his service to the country.

Central hosts second annual Red, White, and Boom celebration; raising donations for troops oversees
CENTRAL, La. (WAFB) - The city of Central held its second annual Red, White, and Boom celebration on July 5. There was food, live music, and of course fireworks. The event was free, but organizers hoped to raise donations for troops overseas. The Blue Star Mothers organization hosted the donation collection and was supported by the city of Central and Blackwater Methodist churches. Chris Kaiser is the Missions Director of Blackwater Methodist Church. He says the event exceeded his expectations.
