NFL analyst picks Bills rookie Keon Coleman as long-shot candidate to achieve seemingly impossible feat

Buffalo Bills' rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman isn't one to dwell too much on how much pressure is on him ahead of his debut in the league. He'll need to stay focused if he's to succeed right away for a team that desperately needs someone to step up.

But if he does arrive ready to go, he might just achieve the seemingly impossible task that NFL analyst Bucky Brooks recently picked him to do in a recent article listing long-shot players for major awards of the 2024 NFL season.

Brooks, a former player and scout in the league, picked Coleman as his long-shot candidate to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, which would be considered a major shock in the betting world. Below is Brooks' breakdown:

The prospect Josh Allen wanted Buffalo to draft could make his mark immediately as the Bills' lead receiver. Coleman's superior size, athleticism and leaping ability make him a tough matchup for cornerbacks tasked with guarding him on the perimeter. Though it will take some time for the No. 33 overall pick to adapt to the pro game, Coleman's natural playmaking ability should enable him to make key contributions while working through rookie growing pains.

If Coleman earns Allen's trust early in the season with a few spectacular grabs on 50/50 balls in the red zone, the Michigan State/Florida State product could swipe the award from one of the ballyhooed quarterbacks expected to walk away with the trophy.

What makes Coleman as OROY seemingly impossible

The elephant in the room: Six quarterbacks were picked in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft last April. Out of those, five have very realistic paths toward starting at some point of the upcoming regular season.

In a league where everything revolves around the quarterbacks, that means the safest bet you can make if you're trying to predict who will win Offensive Rookie of the Year this year is a to choose a passer. Each of the years where a quarterback has not won the award, it's been because of a lack of a successful rookie at the crucial position rather than another player beating him out.

So for starters, Coleman needs just about every rookie quarterback that gets on the field to struggle and that's something he has zero control over.

That being said, he does have something going for him that other top-tier wide receiver rookies don't have. Malik Nabers, for example, will be catching footballs from either Daniel Jones or Drew Lock. Marvin Harrison Jr. will be Kyler Murray's teammate. Bryce Young will be quarterback to Xavier Legette in a weak Carolina Panthers team.

But Coleman? He will be playing with arguably the second best quarterback in the league: Josh Allen.

Not only that but there's not really much competition for Coleman to earn opportunities. First-round draft picks Ricky Pearsall (49ers) and Xavier Worthy (Chiefs) will be playing on great offenses with established playmakers. And it's been made clear the Bills believe in his ability to contribute immediately .

For Coleman, the door is wide open to produce . You never know, the Bills rookie might end up taking some hardware home.
