A Canton man has been charged with hitting a pedestrian with his vehicle on Reinhardt College Parkway July 22, seriously injuring him, the Canton Police Department announced.

According to the Canton PD, officers were dispatched to the area of 1100 Reinhardt College Parkway at about 1:51 p.m. July 22, after reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle near the eastbound lanes.

Responding officers found an unresponsive man lying in the roadway, on the eastbound side, and immediately administered CPR and used an AED until EMS arrived, Canton PD reported. The man was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for further treatment.

With the help of Cherokee Sheriff's Office, Canton investigators found the vehicle and a suspect, McKinley Hunter, 23, at his Canton home, police said.

Hunter was arrested July 22 and charged with hit and run resulting in serious injury and distracted driving. He remains in custody at the Cherokee County jail with a $8,600 bond.

The victim, a 58-year-old male from Canton, remains in the hospital with serious injuries.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the department at 770-720-4883 or contact Cpl. Matthew Naliwajka directly at matthew.naliwajka@cantonga.gov.
