CAROL STREAM, Ill. — A man from Carol Stream was arrested and charged after a road rage incident where he allegedly shot a man in a Lowes parking lot while his six-year-old son watched from the backseat of his car.

According to the Carol Stream Police Department, 26-year-old Carlos Sanchez appeared in court Saturday morning, where he was charged with one count of Aggravated Battery — Discharge of a firearm and one count of misdemeanor Endangering the Health or Life of a Child.

CSPD officials said patrol units were called to the parking lot of a Lowes Home Improvement store on West Army Trail Road around 8:15 p.m. Thursday on a report of a person with a gun and a male on the ground.

When they arrived, officers said they found a male on the ground who was apparently shot in the leg. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where they are currently listed in stable condition.

Following the launch of an investigation into the incident, police learned that Sanchez and the victim allegedly got into a road rage incident near the intersection of Army Trail and Kuhn Roads.

Sanchez is alleged to have followed the victim into the Lowes parking lot, where both individuals exited their vehicles, got into an argument and started fighting. During the physical altercation, Sanchez allegedly told the victim, “I’m going to shoot you” at least twice, before pulling out a gun and shooting the victim in the leg.

It is also alleged that Sanchez’s six-year-old son was with him in his car at the time of the shooting.

Shortly thereafter, CSPD officers were able to find Sanchez at his home and take him into custody without incident.

“Road rage is a serious and growing concern on our streets,” said CSPD Chief of Police Don Cummings. “It endangers lives and creates a hostile environment for all drivers. A moment of anger can have lifelong consequences.”

Sanchez’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 22 in DuPage County Circuit Court.
