    Carteret House Fire Victim Airlifted to Hospital

    CARTERET, NJ — A badly burned man was helicoptered to a Livingston hospital on Sunday after a two-alarm fire broke out in the basement of a Roosevelt Avenue home.

    The cause of the June 7th fire at 694 Roosevelt Avenue – near Hayward Avenue and down the street from the Nathan Hale School – remains under investigation, authorities said. The male victim was not identified.

    The afternoon fire brought a swift response from Carteret firefighters, who found one of the home’s occupants in the basement where the fire apparently started, according to fire officials and media reports .

    The man suffered severe burns and was airlifted to the specialized burn center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.

    Two other people in the home escaped without injury. A borough emergency medical technician (EMT) was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
