BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A 44-year-old Hoover man is charged with murder following a fatal shooting outside a Birmingham motel on Monday.

According to Birmingham police, officers arrived at the Anchor Motel in the 8400 block of First Avenue North around 9:30 a.m. on reports of a person shot. When officers arrived on the scene, they found 45-year-old James White shot to death in the parking lot.

Police said the shooting was the result of an argument between White and Noel Ashford outside the motel. Ashford allegedly shot White and left the scene in an unknown vehicle. Ashford was later arrested for White’s death and is now charged with murder in the case.

Ashford is being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail.

A witness attempted life-saving measures for White before BFRS arrived.
