North Carolina freshman volleyball player Jackie Taylor, the son of former Washington safety Sean Taylor, is honoring her dad in a special way this season.

North Carolina Volleyball's social media account posted a photo of Jackie wearing a No. 21 jersey, the same as her father, while he was a member of the Washington Commanders.

Sean Taylor tragically died in November 2007 at 24 when an intruder entered his bedroom and fatally shot him.

When the tragedy occurred, Taylor was in his fourth NFL season and coming off a Pro Bowl appearance in 2006.

In 55 career games (53 starts), Taylor had 305 tackles, 43 passes defended, 12 interceptions and eight forced fumbles.

In 2022, Washington unveiled a memorial for Sean Taylor, which Jackie attended.

"It was beautiful, honestly. They put everything that he wore, soccer cleats, the little things that defined him, that were special to him... So that was really special," she said.

Per Sports Recruits , Jackie is a middle blocker who most recently played for the Miami Hype Volleyball Club.

She committed to the Tar Heels in May 2023.

North Carolina volleyball went 13-14 last year. The 2024 season begins on August 30.
