CHESTER — A suspicious package left in front of the post office building here late Wednesday afternoon turned out to be a false alarm, Chesterfield Police said.

Nearby businesses, including a convenience store and a Chick-Fil-A, were evacuated while authorities checked out the scene. It all happened around 5 p.m. at the post office on Rock Hill Road near state Route 10.

Federal investigators determined the package was not dangerous, and nearby businesses were reopened.

The probe into the incident is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Chesterfield Police; or anonymously through Crime Solverd at (804) 748-0660 or the P3Tips mobile app.
