    U-Haul driver killed after striking several trees

    CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — The driver of a U-Haul truck was killed Saturday after a single-vehicle collision in Bonita, authorities said.

    According to the Chula Vista Police Department, officers responded to several calls about a U-Haul colliding with a tree near the intersection of Villas Drive and Villas Court around noon.

    First-responders found a seriously injured 64-year-old man that was trapped inside the vehicle. Police said the driver was eventually freed and firefighters began lifesaving measures before transporting him to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead upon arrival.

    Based on initial indications, police said it appears the man was inside the U-Haul truck when it began moving down a hill for unknown reasons. The vehicle struck several trees in the process, fatally injuring the driver. His identity has not been released at this time.

    The Chula Vista Police Traffic Bureau is investigating the collision. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has additional information is asked to contact authorities at 619-385-6652, or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
