Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow Poses Wild Idea For NFL Schedule

The NFL schedule could eventually go to 18 games, and if it does, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has a wild—but great—idea on how to break up the regular season.

During an appearance on the Pardon My Take podcast, Burrow suggested that the NFL impose two bye weeks, including a league-wide bye for Week 13 ( h/t Zach Bachar of Bleacher Report ).

And what would happen that week? The Pro Bowl.

This would allot each team in the league two weeks off to combat the longer schedule, and the Pro Bowl would make it so that the fans won’t have to miss out on any football that Sunday.

It’s a pretty interesting idea by Burrow, especially given that the NFL seems bound to add another game to the schedule at some point, and possibly in the near future.

The league expanded to a 17-game schedule in 2021, and NFL insider Peter King reported that year that 18 games could be coming as soon as 2025.

What can we expect from Joe Burrow in 2024?

Of course, the bigger concern for Burrow is how he and the Bengals will perform in 2024.

Burrow’s 2023 campaign was marred by injuries, as he played through a calf issue over the first several weeks of the season and then saw his year end due to a wrist injury in Week 11.

Cincinnati managed to go 9-8 in spite of missing Burrow for the back half of the season, but it ultimately missed the playoffs.

Burrow underwent surgery to repair the wrist injury and appears to be on track to play in Week 1, but the question is whether not the Bengals still have it in them to make a deep playoff run.

Over the last five years, Cincinnati is the only AFC ballclub to beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the postseason, as it defeated the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game back in January 2022 to advance to the Super Bowl.

The Bengals have also gone 3-1 against the Chiefs with Burrow healthy, so they certainly seem to know what it takes to best Patrick Mahomes and Co.

Of course, Cincy’s success in 2024 is almost solely dependent on whether or not Burrow can stay on the field.

Since entering the NFL as the No. 1 overall pick in 2020, the LSU product has never played a full season.

We’ll see if Joe Burrow can make 2024 the first full campaign of his career.
