It seems like Jonathan India is heavily rumored to be on the move during every trading window, yet he stays in Cincinnati.
India is under contract for two more seasons. Cincinnati clearly believes they can contend in that time period.
This year has not really gone according to plan for the Reds. They do not seem like they will improve on last year’s 82-80 record. However, a lot of positives should give the Reds confidence for the future.
The Reds’ young pitching staff has taken great strides and is now the key to their future success.
The Reds will need quality hitters to back up the pitchers. India is definitely one of those hitters.
The Reds second baseman said, “they (Reds) came up to me Tuesday and said they did not want to give me up.” India said the Reds made it clear that he was too valuable to the team to trade.
With that said, we know the Reds listened to calls about India. The Yankees and Reds were in contact. The Yankees were very interested in the second baseman.
India was one of the best hitters in MLB in June. However, in July, India went back to being the slightly below average hitter he was during the first two months of the season.
If India continued his success into July, Cincinnati would have gotten better offers. Yes, the Reds are happy to still have the second baseman on their team. But, if India had a great start to July and they were offered a haul of prospects for him, the Reds would not have complained.
Regardless, the Reds held on to their infield star and hope he is a part of future successful teams.
