Fan favorite among players the Browns could look to give an extension to during the 2024 NFL season

We are not far off at all from Cleveland Browns football returning and the season being here. In just a couple of weeks, the Browns will be returning to Berea to begin training camp to prepare for the 2024 NFL season.

After making the playoffs in 2023, the Browns hope to be healthier and take a step forward in 2024.

One thing the Browns will have to do this year is weigh the option of signing a few players to extensions. Today, I am going to go through that list and we will start with the obvious one.

    WR Amari Cooper

I look for the Browns and Cooper to agree to some sort of deal that at least keeps him in Cleveland for the next two seasons. Cleveland is not in a place to move on from Cooper and has no succession plan to replace their top wideout. Bringing Cooper back through the 2025 season makes all of the sense in the world and the Browns would have to really fumble this for it to not happen. Coming off of a career-high 1,250 receiving yards, Cooper is still doing the thing.

    LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah

If an in-season extension happens, I look for it to be JOK more so than another player. Think of when the Browns extended Grant Delpit last year after he proved that he was blossoming into one of the best at his position. That is exactly what Koramoah did in 2023 and he could take an even bigger step in 2024. The sample size is not really big yet but if JOK plays the first half of the season like he did last season, he is going to get paid .

    RB Nick Chubb

It is unknown when Chubb will start his 2024 season with the Browns but he is expected to be out there at some point and is progressing well. All sides involved need to see Chubb on the field and how the knee responds. If all goes well. the Browns could look to keep the fan favorite around in the future.

    LT Jedrick Wills Jr.

Average to mediocre tackles get paid in this league and that’s what Wills is. While I think the extension more than likely does not happen in the season, it will be an option for Cleveland. Playing on his fifth-year option, Wills needs to stay healthy and prove he can be a consistent blocker for the Browns. If those things don’t happen, the Browns will be replacing him after the season. If they do, the Browns could potentially get a team-friendly deal.

    K Dustin Hopkins

Hopkins is 34 years old but that is a nonfactor for a kicker and he will play as long as he decides to. Since Phil Dawson left years ago, the Browns have struggled to have a consistent kicker. Hopkins was that plus some last year on his way to the Pro Bowl. If Hopkins can repeat that, he will get a contract amongst the league’s highest-paid at the kicker spot.

    WR Elijah Moore

Moore was fine in Cleveland last year but nothing special. He did not look like a player that couldn’t be replaced. Still, I’m not ruling out an extension happening this season if he can have a strong showing up until that point.
