Rottweiler pups, their mother rescued from the Park Fire

An adult rottweiler and her pups were rescued in the first hours of the Park Fire as hundreds of people were fleeing their homes to escape the blaze.

A post on Facebook from the Butte County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team said a person’s truck became disabled as they left the Cohasset area, about 120 miles north of Sacramento.

The person had to leave the truck behind along with two rottweiler adults and their puppies. Officials were given the location of the truck, but no one could immediately head to it because of the fire conditions.

The sheriff’s office said that on Saturday, a member of the search and rescue team flew to the area and found a safe landing zone about 1.5 miles from the vehicle.

After walking to the truck, the team member found the puppies and their mother alive and determined that the father had not survived.

The surviving dogs were given water and snacks and taken to the helicopter, where they were taken to the Chico Airport and later to an animal rescue group.

Since igniting on Wednesday afternoon, the Park Fire has rapidly grown to become one of the largest in the state’s history , with thousands of people under evacuation orders and hundreds of fire and emergency personnel working to contain the blaze.
