When Mike Elko took over the Texas A&M Aggies , he knew he was not heading to a place where the cupboard would be left bare.

Quite the opposite in fact. Jimbo Fisher didn't get fired because he couldn't bring in talented players, he got fired because he couldn't do anything significant with said talented players. In terms of a ' rebuild ' situation, Elko is not extremely far away from having a roster that's already set to compete.

One of those talented players comes in the wide receiver room with the 6 foot 6 Noah Thomas . While he has all the potential in the world, Thomas has not quite put it all together as he heads into his junior year, largely due to the fact that he was playing injured in 2023. Elko spoke ahead of the start of fall camp about what Thomas has done since his arrival in January to get himself ready to maximize his potential.

“From a big picture standpoint he committed to the weight room from January until today. I think that commitment ultimately helps when it comes to injury prevention. We talk a lot in the building about being a pro and taking care of your body — not like a college kid — but like a professional athlete," Elko said. "What he needed to do was get a little bit stronger so he had stronger play strength, so that he could play through press (coverage), play through the catch point, play physical down the field. I think he’s done all that. I think there’s a huge upside for him this year. Hopefully, it comes to fruition.”

Aggies quarterback Conner Weigman also talked about the commitment Thomas has made and what it was like rehabbing from injury with one of his best friends in the room.

"Yeah, that's my guy. He's been working hard. He's been in the training room with me. We were right by each other doing our treatments and rehabs and stuff like that," Weigman said. "Yeah, he's a dude now. He's 6'6", and he can fly. He can go get a ball up top, and he can do anything. Just giving him the ball quickly, and giving him the ball in open space it's going to be fun to watch him this year."
