(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) took a suspect, allegedly connected to two recent downtown stabbings, into custody on Thursday night, June 20.

According to CSPD, officers were called to the area of South Tejon and East Cimarron Streets just before 11 p.m. on Thursday after receiving multiple reports of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they found one victim suffering from a non-life-threatening injury.

Police began searching for the suspect and during that time made a potential connection to a suspect from another stabbing that happened downtown in the 00 Block of North Tejon Street, near the intersection with Pikes Peak Avenue, on Sunday, June 9.

According to CSPD, when officers responded to the incident on June 9, they located a victim with serious injuries who was later taken to the hospital. Upon further investigation, police learned that a white man in his 30s, approximately 5’8”, and with a heavy build allegedly approached the victim who was standing in front of a business, before he stabbed them and ran off. At the time the suspect was not located and the relationship between the suspect and the victim was unknown.

At around 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, officers with the Downtown Area Response Team (DART) located the suspect near Colorado Avenue and Antlers Place. While DART officers continued to investigate, they were able to confirm that the suspect was allegedly involved in both stabbing incidents.

CSPD said the suspect’s identity will be released at a later time pending additional investigative steps, but that he remains in custody on charges of First-Degree Assault.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call CSPD at (719) 444-7000 or to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers at (719) 634-7867.
