Elite five star offensive line recruit committing to Ohio State, Florida State, Tennessee, or wildcard programs

The vast majority of five star recruits have committed to a school at this point in the recruiting cycle, but one of the best offensive line prospects in the country still remains. Josh Petty, of Fellowship Christian School in Roswell, Georgia has given the college football community an exciting recruiting battle to stay locked into this whole offseason, but he's finally set to commit next week.

It seemed like every major school was in the mix for Petty's recruitment at some point, but he narrowed his search down to Ohio State, Florida State, Tennessee, Georgia Tech and Stanford over the summer. Where will he go? And what makes him such an elite talent as an offensive lineman? Let's dive in.

Josh Petty, Elite Offensive Line Recruit

At 6'5", over 260 pounds Petty is a little lean for your typical five star offensive line recruit but that's because of his unreal versatility in athleticism. Not only is he an offensive lineman, but he also plays defensive line, wrestles at a state championship level, and participates in multiple events in track & field.

Petty's been playing varsity football since he was freshman, tallying unreal stats on the defensive side of the ball on top of throwing defenders to the sideline as a blocker on offense. Petty clearly uses every bit of his understanding in leverage from wrestling to manhandle opposing players no matter what he's trying to do. It's no wonder he pulled over 40 FBS scholarship offers and is still being pursued aggressively by some of the top schools in the nation.

Likely landing spot for Josh Petty

According to multiple recruiting experts and my own sources it seems as though Petty's recruitment might be leaning towards fewer than five true finalists as he wraps things up.

Ohio State seems to be surging in recent weeks alongside Georgia Tech despite many believing Florida State had a lead following his final official visit with them earlier this summer. Ohio State is going all-in trying to pull both Petty and number two overall player in the country offensive tackle David Sanders. The idea of stacking both players side by side would make for a ferocious duo potentially unmatched in the nation.

However, Georgia Tech has been building a monster offensive line of their own after they just added Damola Ajidahun as well. Given how clear academics have been a priority for Petty along the way, the Yellow Jackets might have enough momentum to pull the surprise upset.

The other three remaining contenders Tennessee, Florida State, and Stanford all still have a shot too, but it's unclear just how likely it is for them.

Just two short months ago Petty logged an incredible in-person visit with Tennessee , saying the Vols did a great job going in depth on exactly hey they would develop him and that his relationship with the coaches has really grown there. Petty continually wears Florida State gear in his recent social posts, so some assume that means something significant. But Stanford hasn't seemed to be pulling any recent traction with him.

It's likely going to come down to Ohio State, Georgia Tech, and Tennessee. As much as it hasn't seemed to be about the money for Petty up to this point, the NIL package might be the final deciding factor. Ohio State has been rumored to have offered a massive deal to David Sanders. If Tennessee goes harder after Petty than the Buckeyes can given where they already have potentially allocated funds the Vols might pull a surprise.
