COWETA, Okla. — Coweta Police said 10 cars were broken into within a 2 hour span in a Coweta neighborhood early Wednesday morning.

Wynstone neighborhood, a quiet neighborhood in the city of Coweta, experienced, what they believe, was over 10 car break-ins between 2 and 4:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Neighbors picked up a suspicious figure on their home security cameras wearing all black and a black mask.

“My mom just moved he re, so it’s tough when you come out here and this happens,” Merreighn said.

Police said they believe that the suspect is a local teenager.

They said he stole a gun , money and other miscellaneous items.

Chief Mike Bell spoke about the catch to all the break-ins.

“They may have been broken into, but not every vehicle had something removed from it. It looked like they were rummaging through it and didn't take anything," Bell said.

Chief Bell said the best way to avoid burglary is actually to keep your car unlocked.

“Keep your cars clean and don't leave anything in them if you possibly can. If you're going to park it outside, leave it unlocked. You don't want them breaking in for something as simple as a power cord for your phone that they're going to take. A window is a lot more expensive than a power cord," Bell said.

Chief Bell said the best thing to do if your car is being broken into is to stay in your house. Watch on your camera and give the police a call.
