DAKOTA CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — UPDATE (9:42 a.m.): All roads on 164th Street that had to be closed due to the gas leak this morning have been reopened.

According to a Facebook post from the Dakota City Fire Department , the gas company was able to shut off the gas line so the area could be reopened.

Though the gas line is closed, officials are continuing to work on the broken line.

Officials ask that people avoid the direct area of the gas line break so it can be worked on.

PREVIOUS: Some Siouxlanders were awoken early Monday morning from what sounded like a train barreling through Dakota City, Nebraska.

The sound is coming from a gas leak located at 164th and N. 20th Street near the Tyson plant in Dakota City. Officials say that a major gas line was struck in this area. As of 5:30 a.m., traffic is not allowed in the area of 164th Street east of Highway 77. Any Tyson employees that use the west entrance are asked to use the Empirical entrance off Dakota Avenue.

KCAU 9 first sent a reporter to the scene at around 1:30 a.m. They said officials were blocking off the area of the gas leak at that time.

This is a developing story. KCAU 9 will continue to provide updates as we learn more.
