Simmons and fellow AMU alums got a chance to enjoy time with the Nationals at batting practice before the game.

According to a 2020 survey on the university’s website , AMU ranks among the country’s top ten best online and nontraditional institutions for providing higher education to the U.S. military and veterans.

Simmons graduated this past May on the Dean’s List with a master’s degree in Homeland Security. She is also an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

The other alumni honored at the game served in the U.S. Army, Marine Corps and Air Force.

“Getting together with AMU grads, many of whom are veterans or still in service, for a photo shoot and a baseball game highlights how our military and school bonds continue to create new connections,” said U.S. Army veteran Arryuana Rhodes, who graduated from AMU in 2023 with a Bachelor’s in Business. “We had an amazing time so thank you AMU!”

According to its online mission statement , AMU’s mission is to “provide high-quality higher education with emphasis on educating the nation’s military and public service communities by offering respected, relevant, accessible, affordable, and student-focused online programs that prepare students for service and leadership in a diverse, global society.”

“Thank you, AMU, for bringing us Grads and Alumni together, not just as former students, but as family,” said Allen Lee Cline Jr., who graduated from the university in 2018 with a degree in Counterintelligence. “Your dedication to fostering a lifelong connection among us is truly appreciated!”

The AMU students were overjoyed when the Nationals beat the Los Angeles Angels 5-2.
