REMINDER: Fireworks are illegal in the City of Des Moines, and this year the fines and penalties have increased, Des Moines Police announced this week.

In response to concerns regarding the safety and well-being of our residents, the City Council has enacted Ordinance No. 24-011, which prohibits property owners from permitting the possession or use of fireworks on their premises.

    • Fines for possession or use of fireworks may reach up to $513.00.
    • Property owners are now liable for fines if fireworks are used or possessed on their property.

Des Moines Police will have additional staff on duty to enforce illegal fireworks use.

“We urge all property owners to ensure compliance with these regulations to avoid fines and promote community safety,” police said. “Keep yourself, your neighbors, and your community safe.”

All are invited to come to the Des Moines Marina for the citywide 4th of July Celebration and Drone Show – read more info here.
