Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay wasn't a fan of the way quarterback Matthew Stafford was treated in his return to Detroit back in January.

It was an NFL Wild Card playoff matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions.

No one expected Lions fans to cheer for Stafford throughout the game. It was a win-or-go-home scenario for a team that had missed the playoffs in the previous six seasons.

However, for a quarterback who had given 12 years of his career to the organization, one would think the initial reception for Stafford would have been better.

"I'm the biggest fan of Stafford because I played with him for seven years," Slay said, when appearing on "Green Light with Chris Long." "And I'm a fan of Detroit, man, too as well. Only thing I did not like about what Detroit did [is] when they said they booed him coming out."

He continued, "Like, I understand it's the playoffs, but Staff did a lot. He done took a lot of beatings for that city. He ain't never had none of the best o-line like that line got now."

Stafford and the Rams dropped a 24-23 decision at the Lions.

Slay does bring up fair points regarding the current and past situations in Detroit. Stafford had a long list of injuries during his run with the Lions, and didn't always have the greatest offensive support.

However, the team never won a playoff game with him under center, and he won a Super Bowl in his first year with the Rams. Those optics likely played a big role in why some Lions fans felt the way they did.
