Six teens arrested after vacant historic Mississippi school burns to the ground

Six teens have been arrested after a vacant Mississippi school burned to the ground.

WLBT News in Jackson reports that six teenagers have been arrested and charged, while one remains on the run after a vacant school in Drew, Mississippi, was burned to the ground.

The teens are accused of setting two fires at the site. The first fire, on October 14, was extinguished by the Drew Volunteer Fire Department with minimal damage. However, the second fire, set the next day, destroyed the structure, which was being added to the historical register in Sunflower County.

An investigation by the Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Drew Police Department led to the arrest of four 15-year-olds and two 14-year-olds.

They face charges of first-degree arson and trespassing.

All six are confined to their homes pending their court appearances. Their names have not been released due to their status as minors.
