MONROE – Mason made its debut in the 50th annual Monroe County Fair Softball Tournament Sunday by winning a perfect game as Presley Stark and Riley Brighton struck out 11 of the 12 hitters they faced.
Monday the offense took over.
Coach Angie Gerber’s team broke open a close game by scoring 12 runs in the fourth inning of a 16-4 romp over Dundee.
“We definitely had more hits this time,” Gerber said. “We hit well and scored a lot of runs in the fourth inning.”
Stark was the ringleader, going 3-for-4 with a double. She drove in a run and scored four times.
Adding to the party were Riley Brighton, Henley Stubleski and Liv Cowdrey with two hits apiece. Brighton, Stubleski, Kylie Lavoy and Valynn Morrow drove in two runs each.
“Today we focused on bringing more energy,” Gerber said. “It was a team effort. We had good, positive energy with everyone cheering for each other.”

Stark, Aubrey Hodge and Brighton all saw time in the circle. The trio allowed just four hits.
Madison Cousino, Rylee Cole, Brynn Cusac and Macy Blanchett had singles for Dundee with Cole, Cusac, Blanchett and Azaria Lane driving in runs. Cousino scored twice.
Mason advances to the winners’ bracket finals where it will face three-time defending champion South Rockwood at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.
“That’s exciting,” Gerber said. “We had a good draw and the girls are making it happen.”
Dundee drops into the losers’ bracket to play Ida at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The first game Tuesday pits Monroe against Bedford at 4:30 p.m.
Monroe got there with an 8-6 victory over Frenchtown in the first game Monday.
Monroe scored four times in the first inning and two in the second, then held on.
Jozi Willey singled, walked twice and scored three times.
Other hits came from Lacie Little, Harper Loveland and Marilyn Tyner.
Kennedy Joseph, Averie Gill, Myra Thomas, Sierra Powers, Emilie Cupp and Eden Vallade scored runs for Frenchtown.

Waterstradt wins again
DUNDEE – Chad Waterstradt has added another chapter to his dynasty of Dundee Golf Club.
The Dundee resident recently won the club championship for the fifth time in the last six years, beating Steve Carpenter of Dundee in the finals.
First ace for Perkins
MONROE – Doug Perkins of Monroe used a 4-iron to shoot his first hole-in-one Wednesday on the 200-yard No. 13 hole at Green Meadows Golf Club.
La-Z-Boy Open set
MONROE – The 46th annual La-Z-Boy Junior Open will be held July 23-24 at Green Meadows Golf Course.
There will be boys and girls divisions for ages 17-19, 15-16, 13-14 and 12-under. The entry fee is $18 for 12-under and $25 for all other divisions.
The entry deadline is July 20.

Hot Spurs earn win
MONROE – Olivia Merkle, Nate Cook, Jake Winter and Brian Merkle scored for Hot Spurs in a 4-2 win over Athletico in the Monroe Adult Coed Indoor Soccer League at LevelUp Training Sunday.
Ryan Murray and Steve Bucknor had the goals for Athletico.
